From 2015 to 2016, the Department of Medicine (U of A) hosted The Academic Learning Series; a series of presentations intended to help Assistant Professors acquire the skills and knowledge required to achieve tenure as Associate Professors and establish a successful beginning to their academic careers. Each 90 minute presentation was video recorded, analyzed and broken down into educational segments and converted for on-line delivery. A WordPress site was design and developed to host the video recordings (approximately 55 in total).
The purpose of the initiative was to:
- Provide faculty with web-based access to the video recordings so they could be access anytime, anywhere, with ease.
- Create a collection of video recordings and learning resources that faculty could easily search by topic to more effectively support their own professional goals.
- Capture, share and showcase the Department of Medicine’s expertise and knowledge.
The video recordings and educational analysis of the presentations was made possible by University of Alberta’s Centre for Teaching and Learning.
